COL FINLEY
There’s a very good reason why award-winning country rocker, Col Finley has been at the forefront of Australia’s country music scene and has stood the test of time. Extremely well-crafted songs, dedication, exceptional work ethic, a killer live show and a long-lasting connection with fans, are all the essential ingredients to become of one Australia’s most successful independent recording and touring artists.
With over 25 years in the music industry under his belt, Col has recorded and released six successful commercial albums. He has dabbled in acting, which earned him a cameo role in the Australian hit movie ‘Dad and Dave: On our Selection’ alongside renowned actors such as Leo McKern, Geoffrey Rush, Barry and Miranda Otto, Noah Taylor and Dave Fields. Col was also Leo McKern’s stunt double and stand in.
In addition, Col’s music has also been featured in film and television, including the box office smash ‘Wolf Creek’ and TV shows such as ‘MDA’, ‘The Real Seachange’ and more.
Col was raised from humble beginnings as a footy kid from Canberra, then worked as a police dog handler in the RAAF, before eventually launching himself full time in the Australian music industry. The illustrious ride has taken Col to the top of the ARIA and country music charts as well as touring internationally in some of the world’s leading venues and music festivals.
Songwriting was instilled in Col from the very early stages of his career. His songwriting ability drew inspiration from real life stories and the journey of discovering a life lived, bringing songs to life with subjects such as family and heritage to drug and alcohol abuse and struggles with depression.
With Col, comes heart and the need to give back to the community. This has seen him devote time to mental health awareness and with the release of the single ‘Above The Blue’ in 2016, helped raise over $36,000 for Beyond Blue.
With such an extensive catalogue of songs over many years, it was inevitable there would be a release of Col’s ‘Greatest Hits’ and much-loved favourites. This came to be his sixth album release and his biggest project of all, “The Collective”, a 25 song, 2 disc tribute to all the songs he has written over his incredible career. Col says “This album has been dragged from the soul of every album and every song I have ever written” and after you listen, you get a sense of knowing Col’s life, his family, his friends and his music. “This is my life in song and I’m proud to share it” Col said.
‘Coffee Goes Cold’ was the first single which reflected on the loss of family through mental health and creating the conversation and awareness which resulted in the song going viral and achieving exactly what Col set out to do.
Now begins a new chapter which will see Col returning with a new vision. “For My Family, Friends and The Love Of Music” will be the 2020 slogan, because at the end of the day, that’s what life is all about.
The emotion and energy is evident as Col explains “The passion and drive that I get when I write, perform or are a part of music in some form is so inspiring. Music is so powerful and still so deep in my soul. I just love music and all it creates”
Expect to see Col touring extensively in 2020, along with a highly anticipated new music release. An exciting year awaits.
